Czechia’s first-ever UCI Gran Fondo World Championship qualifying event delivered a gripping weekend of racing as the Dekom System Sudety Tour concluded on Sunday in Broumov, a historic town nestled against the Polish border in the Sudeten highlands. The 13th edition of the race made its UCI debut across three formats — a time trial, medio fondo and gran fondo — drawing competitors from across Europe.

In the 147km gran fondo, Polish teammates Jan Miazga and Artur Sowiński of HS Cycling Team crossed the line together in 03:44:14, forcing officials to consult a photo finish before awarding victory to Miazga. Third place went to fellow Pole Patryk Krajewski of Walbet Team, 11 seconds back in 03:44:26, underlining Poland’s dominance in the day’s marquee event. Czech rider Adéla Koclířová claimed the women’s gran fondo title in 04:09:18.

In Saturday’s 10.6km uphill time trial — staged in the Polish town of Radków and climbing from 375m to 771m altitude — 18 year-old Jakub Walis of Mapei Merida Kaňkovský set the fastest overall time in 22:34.

Koclířová also topped the women’s time trial standings in 25:50, completing a remarkable double for the 26-year-old Czech rider.

The 85km medio fondo on Sunday saw Lukáš Čáp of TJ Sokol Zernov take men’s honours in 02:16:59, edging Petr Pavlišen by a single second. Austrian rider Julia Hallwirth (Bikeleasing VERGE VICC) won the women’s race in 02:27:26.

Riders finishing in the top 25% of their age and gender category in the time trial, medio fondo (M60+ and W50+) and gran fondo qualified for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, which will be held later this year in Japan.
