Colin Moses, a longtime cyclocross racer and fell runner from Oldfield, West Yorkshire, has died after suffering a cardiac arrest during the 2026 Liège-Bastogne-Liège Challenge in Belgium on Saturday 25 April. He was 60 years old.

Moses, who was a member of Bingley Harriers & AC and a multiple finisher of the 3 Peaks Cyclocross — one of the most demanding events on the British calendar — collapsed at around 10:30 on the Col de Lamormenil, the second major climb of the day. He was reportedly taking part in the full 250 km route, the sportive’s longest option, mirroring the course raced by the pro peloton the following day and won by Tadej Pogačar.

Belgian broadcaster TVLux, which first reported the incident, said a medical helicopter evacuated Moses to Liège’s University Hospital, where his condition was described as critical. One member of the helicopter crew told the outlet that the prognosis was “grim.” Friends later confirmed on social media that Moses had died, describing the cause as a “massive” heart attack. The event’s organisers have not released an official statement.

Tributes poured in across social media, with friends calling Moses a typical Yorkshireman” and “Such a fit guy who lived life to the full!” Allan Greenwood wrote on Facebook that Moses was “a steady laidback bloke, always ready for a natter” and “always humble about his own achievements.”

3 Peaks Cyclocross organisers noted that Moses had raced their event a record 27 times, most recently last September, and achieved a notable Top 50 finish in 2014.

Moses’s death comes just weeks after a 51-year-old British cyclist died of a suspected cardiac arrest during the We Ride Flanders sportive.

Gran Fondo Daily News extends its condolences to Moses’s family and friends.
