After more than four hours of racing through the hills of Portugal’s Western Region, Tiago Galhano (N2Bike/Castelli/Swift/Newrace) claimed overall victory on Sunday 19 April at the sixth edition of the Granfondo Torres Vedras, completing the 155.2km route with 2,320 metres of climbing in 4:08:57 — just 12 seconds ahead of Bruno Rosa (Casa Benfica Almodovar). Goncalo Freitas (Love Tiles) rounded out the podium a further second back.
The result was no surprise for anyone following the domestic granfondo circuit. The Castro Verde rider was honoured at the Algarve Cycling Association Gala in late 2025 after a standout season that included overall victory at Granfondo Portimão in November. By March 2026, racing under new colours, he was leading the Portuguese Masters Cup in the elite category.
In the women’s Granfondo, Susana Lourenco (Love Tiles) won in 4:58:46, well clear of Sweden’s Hanna Sousa in second. It was her second major granfondo win of 2026: in March she took victory at the Viana Granfondo — a race drawing nearly 1,900 participants from 22 countries — and led the Troféu Superprestígio women’s standings. Love Tiles, based in Aveiro, is Portugal’s largest amateur cycling team.
The Mediofondo told a different story. Ruben Pais (Escola de Ciclismo de Oeiras/Parracho/Mr Print/Reconco) won a sprint finish in 2:45:22, with Ricardo Gil three seconds back and Carlos Rodrigues (Road Bike Club Portugal) a further eight adrift. Pais is known for a powerful finishing kick — Sunday was a textbook execution. The 2024 Portuguese Masters Cup champion in Master 30 is off to a strong start to earn another title. Tamara Branco (Brinox Cycling Team) took the women’s Mediofondo in 3:08:09.
The Mediofondo drew 602 finishers against the Granfondo’s 232, reflecting the format’s broader appeal. Organised by Cabreira Solutions under UCI and Federação Portuguesa de Ciclismo regulations, the event unfolded on roads that carry the legacy of the late late Portuguese cycling icon Joaquim Agostinho — and in 2026, produced winners worthy of them.
