Neusiedler See Radmarathon in Mörbisch am See, Austria, kicked off a weekend of UCI Gran Fondo World Championship qualifying on Saturday 18 April, with riders finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category qualifying for the 2026 world championships in Japan.

An international field spanning much of Europe, including Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary and the Netherlands, competed Saturday morning in a 25.8km Time Trial with 232m of elevation gain.

Averaging 44.96 km/h Germany’s Julian Brown of RSV Daadetal claimed the men’s title, stopping the clock at 34:41.7 to barely edge out 2025 UCI World Time Trial Champion Daniel Hochstrasser (34:48.8) of Austria and compatriot Martin Geretschnig (35:01.8).

In the women’s Time Trial, Poland’s Ewelina Wołos was the fastest female finisher with a time of 38:51.2, ahead of fellow Pole Martyna Wiśniewska (40:43.7) and Germany’s Adelheid Schütz (43:13.8).

Sunday’s 125km gran fondo drew a massive field of 1,790 finishers, underlining the event’s status as one of the season’s major UCI qualifying races.

The men’s race came down to a photo finish, with Poland’s Gracjan Szelag edging Belgium’s Willem Van Den Borne in an identical recorded time of 2:41:57.3, with Austria’s Anton Erlbacher just 0.2 seconds back in third.

Szelag, 30, is no stranger to the Mörbisch podium or the world stage — the former elite road racer successfully defended his 2025 title here, and heads to Japan as reigning world silver medallist after finishing second at last October’s UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Australia.

Slovakia’s Alica Brádlerová took the women’s honours in 3:03:03.8, with Poland’s Martyna Wiśniewska — already on the podium from Saturday’s time trial — finishing second at 3:03:04.5, and Slovakia’s Lenka Rusnak third in 3:04:45.5.
