Italy’s National Anti-Doping Tribunal (TNA) has provisionally suspended two senior officials of junior development club SALUS Ciclistica Seregno ASD, dealing a serious blow to one of Lombardy’s most celebrated grassroots cycling programs.
On Wednesday 09 April 2026, the TNA granted applications filed by the National Anti-Doping Prosecution and provisionally suspended both Danilo Napolitano and club president Marco Moretto, both registered with the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI).
Napolitano, a former Giro d’Italia stage winner with 38 pro victories, faces alleged violations of WADA Code articles 2.6 and 2.8 — covering possession of a prohibited substance and the administration or attempted administration of a prohibited substance to an athlete respectively. Violations of article 2.8 carry potential sanctions ranging from four years up to lifetime ineligibility. Critically, where the athlete receiving the substance is a minor — as would be the case in a junior development team — the WADA Code mandates a lifetime ban.
Moretto is alleged to have breached articles 2.9 and 3.1 — relating to complicity in a doping violation and standards of proof. Article 2.9 complicity violations carry a minimum two-year ban, rising to a lifetime suspension depending on severity.
Contacted by Gran Fondo Daily News on Friday 10 April 2026, SALUS Ciclistica Seregno responded promptly. The club’s legal representative, Avv. Pietro Giovanardi, stated that investigation documents already obtained by the club “clearly establish Mr Moretto’s complete non-involvement in the contested practices,” adding that this finding “has already been confirmed by the ordinary courts.” The club further confirmed that it has already taken all appropriate legal action against former sporting director Danilo Napolitano “in the relevant venues, for the protection of the ASD and its members.”
The club also requested that Gran Fondo Daily News await the final anti-doping court ruling before publishing, citing the fact that the squad’s membership consists almost entirely of minors.
The provisional suspensions are precautionary measures pending full proceedings. Both men are presumed innocent until any case is concluded. Gran Fondo Daily News will continue to follow proceedings as they develop.
