Sebastian Ruiz Teran and Andrea Loza Fiol celebrated victory on a champagne drenched podium at L’Étape La Paz by Tour de France on Sunday, with the worldwide amateur cycling series launching its 2026 season in the Baja California Sur desert of Mexico.
In the men’s 127km race, 2025 Mexican U23 National Time Trial silver medalist Sebastian Ruiz Teran, 21, took a tight sprint victory with a final time of 3:23:41, powering past Evian Ortega Rios for the win. Ricardo Peña Salas completed the podium at 3:23:43 in third place.
The women’s race told a very different story. Andrea Loza Fiol, also 21, delivered a dominant, wire-to-wire performance, claiming the win in 3:39:57 with a commanding 18 minute lead. Jancy Meraz Barcelo earned second in 3:57:58, with Elian Aida Martinez Clark rounding out the podium in 4:07:02.
Cynthia Lorena Lozada González won the women’s 74km medio fondo in 1:58:25, with Liliana Pedrín Ortiz (2:00:21) and Ariana Roxana León García (2:00:24) not far behind.
In a very competitive men’s medio race Bryant Ramírez Ruiz Torres sprinted to victory in 1:55:36, followed immediately by Ángel César Villarreal Vargas (1:55:57) who barely held off Joel Meza Espiricueta (1:55:38) in the final meters.
Just over 900 competitors took to the L’Etape La Paz start line under beautiful warm skies along the iconic Malecón waterfront before riding deep into the Baja desert interior.
