On Wednesday the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced several key changes affecting 2026 and 2027 Gran Fondo World Championship qualifying, including two date changes and one new event.

Originally scheduled for 19 April, Granfondo Belgium will now take place on 29 March with new safety features after being cancelled last year due to a massive crash. Riders finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category will qualify for the 2026 UCI Gran Fondo World Championship in Niseko, Japan.

2027 UCI Gran Fondo World Championship qualifying kicks-off 13 September at the Italian classic Gran Fondo Matildica, which has been added to the calendar.

Qualifying continues at Gran Fondo Hainan from 18-20 December in China, one week later than originally announced due to scheduling conflicts.

Gran Fondo Matildica and Gran Fondo Hainan participants finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category automatically qualify to compete in the 2027 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships planned in Haute-Savoie, France.
