After several years of being held in miserable conditions, the eleventh edition of the mass-start Old Man Winter Gravel Rally rolled out with 1200 happy smiling graveleurs on Sunday 1 February in Lyons, Colorado USA.
With little snow on the ground, hard ‘n fast gravel, temperatures around 50F and sunny skies Deanna Mayles and Justin Peck emerged victorious in the 75-mile women’s and men’s races.
Peck, 22, soloed in for the win with a blazing fast time of 3:10:58, followed by Luke Walter (1:54:26) and Griffin Hoppin (3:11:54) to complete a U23 podium sweep.
After finishing second in 2024 Mayles moved to the top podium step this year, winning in 3:43:32 with a commanding 18 minute lead over Annie Hines and 22 minutes up on Angela Mertell.
Champions in the 40-mile race were Christina Harner (1:45:57) for the women and Chad Barentsen (1:36:41).
Ligiana Aurrecoechea (1:12:35) and Robert Adair (1:08:48) earned wins in the 23-mile women’s and men’s races.
