On Thursday at the 194th Congress of the International Cycling Union (UCI) the Management Committee awarded the 2029 UCI Gran Fondo World Championship to Morbisch am See in Austria, 2030 to the Swiss ski town of Villar-sur-Ollon, 2031 to Trentino in Italy as part of the all-inclusive UCI Cycling World Championships and the 2032 edition to Aalborg, Denmark.

Austria’s Morbisch am See already hosts the fast ‘n flat UCI Neusiedlersee Radmarathon. If the same route around Lake Neusiedl is used for the 2029 worlds it will be a sprinters delight.

Pure climbers will rejoice if the UCI Gran Fondo Suisse course in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland is used for the 2030 world championships. The relatively short 108 kilometer course in the Alps includes ~2600 meters of climbing with roads going either up or down with virtually no flat segments.

The 2031 UCI Cycling World Championships, including all UCI cycling disciplines, will see the gran fondo worlds return to Trentino, Italy where the 2022 Gran Fondo World Championships included climbing the Giro d’Italia worthy Monte Bondone.

In 2032 a very windy and flat Aalborg, Denmark will also host the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships for a second time, following a very successful 2024 edition.
