The final UCI Grand Fondo World Championship qualifying round took place at the 5th Gran Fondo Asociacion Espanola in Uruguay this past Sunday, with 741 riders trying to earn a starting bib for the worlds by finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category.
On a 131 kilometer route starting and finishing in the seaside capital city of Montevideo, former Argentinian pro Sebastian Tolosa, 36, claimed overall victory in 3:01:09 after out-sprinting Daniel Flores. 2025 Argentinian national road bronze medalist Omaz Azzem led a large chasing pack across the finish to take third place 35 seconds later.
2025 Pan American Youth Games Champion Julieta Benedetti, 21, won the women’s gran fondo in 3:01:46. The Argentinian bested Pamela Itati De La Iglesia 3:03:02 and Barbara Frisch 3:06:41.
