L’Etape Las Vegas, part of the worldwide gran fondo series modeled on Tour de France, was cancelled for the second year in a row on Sunday 4 May due to dangerous rain and lightning storms.

After postponing the start by several hours in hopes of dodging inclement weather, the event was cancelled by Las Vegas, USA authorities.

“We are writing to inform you that L’Etape Las Vegas by Tour de France has been cancelled due to unsafe road and weather conditions with continued rain and lightning in the forecast. Local public safety officials declared the cancellation,” L’Etape Las Vegas posted on Facebook.

L’Etape Las Vegas 2024 was also cancelled at the last minute, with dangerous high winds making the 75-mile route unsafe for cyclists.

While 2024 participants were told they would not receive a refund of their $200 entry fee, the organizer plans to issue full refunds to 2025 participants, “We will be providing FULL REFUNDS to all riders. More information on the next steps will be provided in the coming days.”

After cancelling twice in three attempts to host the event, L’Etape Las Vegas has not commented on whether they will double down and try again in 2026… or fold.
