While plenty of cyclists took it easy over Easter weekend, American amateur ultra-cyclist Matthew Lefthand set out to break the Guiness Book of World Records 24 hour virtual cycling record on Zwift.
Starting at 08:00 EST Saturday morning, the 33 year-old rider from Utah took his first of 92,160 pedal strokes to begin his record setting quest on Zwift’s flattest route – the 17.3km Tempus Fugit loop with only 16 meters of elevation per lap.
The event was continuously livestreamed from the ENVE Composites headquarters for anybody interested in watching a guy pedal in place for hours on end…
With unwavering support from his wife and numerous Zwifters, after 24 hours of pedaling in circles, riding in circles and probably imagining circles in the sky from boredom, Lefthand smashed the old record held by Ed Veal by an incredible 54 kilometers, covering 1046 kilometers (record pending verification) with an average speed of 43.583 km/hr!
