In a video posted to Instagram after snatching a prized Strava KOM record from former WorldTour superstar Vincenzo Nibali up the iconic Mortirolo climb in Italy, Canadian amateur cyclist Jack Burke is pleading for a pro contract, saying he “just wants a chance.”

On 16 November the two time winner (2024 & 2022) of Austria’s 235km Ötztaler Radmarathon, one of the world’s most challenging amateur events, summited the 11.46km climb in 43:45, destroying 3x grand tour champion Vincenzo Nibali’s 2019 record by over one minute. Averaging 435 watts – or about 6.3w/kg – Burke is now hoping for a pro contract.

“I just broke the record on the Mortirolo. It’s November 16th, that’s why I’m cold. Yeah, I smashed it. I’ve got to look at exactly the time, but I think I beat Nibali’s record by about a minute,” he joyfully said from the summit.

Although a stunning performance, it might be a long shot for the 29 year-old amateur to land a 2025 pro contract at this late date.

Still, we wish Jack the best of luck.
