After a long day of gravel racing, just over 9 hours, Tara Neyland (TRAPPIST/BRUNSWICK CYCLING CLUB) out-sprinted Emma Viotto to take her first 246km Dirty Warrny victory in Australia, with Scott Bowden (GIANT OFF-ROAD AUSTRALIA) winning the men’s race.
Racing from Geelong to Warrnambool, including 3000+ meters of climbing, Neyland had just enough left in her legs to win by narry a tire’s width over Emma Viotto, with both riders finishing in 9:11:08. Brianna Samuhel took third place one minute later.
Attacking solo with 70km remaining, Scott Bowden held on to win in 7:55:03, followed two minutes later by Dylan Sunderland and 2023 Australian Gravel Champion Conor Sens another eight minutes back.
In the shorter 140km race Otis Jones (KEYSTONE CRANES RACING) and Matilda Raynolds won for the men and women in 4:20:01 and 4:36:59 respectively.
Considered of the best gravel events in the Southern Hemisphere, just under 400 riders participated in the 2024 edition, including former Tour de France pro Phil Anderson, 66, who finished 43rd overall.
