The only UCI Gravel World Series race to be held across two countries, the first edition of Alpine Gravel Challenge took riders over the Portes du Soleil border between Switzerland and France on Sunday. Riders finishing in the top 25% in their UCI age/gender category qualified to compete at the 2024 UCI Gravel World Championships in October.
Hugo Drechou of France, 33, won the 94km race in an exciting three up sprint, defeating perennial podium finisher Petr Vakoc and Torbjorn “Toby” Andre Roed, with all three riders finishing in 3:31:06.
31 year-old American rider Morgan Aguirre (ENOUGH CYCLING) won the women’s 94km race, crossing the finish line in 4:15:56, followed by Annabel Fisher in 4:17:04 and Axelle Dubau-Prevot at 4:17:32.
Swiss riders Romain Bannwart and Riikka Rakic won the 63km medio race in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
Two UCI Gravel World Championship qualifying races are left: Sea Otter Europe in Spain 21 September and Graean-Cymru in Great Britain 22 September.
