Colombian mountain bike racer Dyer Rincon (Vivélo Cycling Club) won his second consecutive UCI Gran Fondo Costa Rica on Sunday 9 June in the city of Puntarenas.
In a three-up sprint to the finish, the 33 year-old defeated Robert Nunez, 57, and Raymond Gonzalez Rivera, 28, for overall victory and to qualify for the 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. All three riders finished the 127km gran fondo route in 2:56:44.
“Very happy to win this race for the second time. It’s a tour that I like a lot. I was able to get to the sprint and win,” Rincon told La Nacion from the podium.
2019 Costa Rica U23 National Time Trial Champion Jennifer Morales, 26, won the women’s gran fondo with time of 3:16:14, followed by former beauty queen Paola Chacón, 33, at 3:18:44 and Natalia Navarro Cerdas, 33, in 3:18:51.
61 year-old American Brendan Sullivan won the 82km medio fondo in 2:06:31, with local rider Rebeca Maria Alfaro Kuri, 57, winning for the women in 2:50:22.
Over 700 riders participated in the UCI Gran Fondo World Championship qualifying race, with those finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category qualifying to race in the world championships taking place in Aalborg, Denmark in September.
