After winning Gran Fondo Hincapie Chattanooga in 2022 at 13 years-old, Enzo Hincapie returned to the Scenic City in Tennessee on Saturday 4 May to once again claim top honors, this time wearing his USA National Champion’s jersey.
Now 15 years-old, Hincapie (U19 EF Education-ONTO) beat a formidable group of six riders, including fellow U19 teammate Noah Johnson, multiple UCI Gran Fondo World Champion Bruce Bird and ex-WorldTour pro Christian Vande Velde. Hincapie finished the 79-mile event, including 5600’ of climbing, in 3:14:48. Noah Johnson (3:14:53) was next, followed by age defying 55 year-old Bruce Bird (3:14:57). Austin Sullivan (3:14:57), Chris Caruana (3:14:57) and Christian Vande Velde (3:15:00) rounded out the top six.
Sarah Schutter, 35, won the women’s gran fondo in 3:46:08, followed by Julie Voss and Jacqueline Green. Former multiple USA Masters National Champion Debbie Milne finished 8th.
46 year-old Yamid Restrepo (2:30:47) won the 57-mile medio fondo for a second year in a row, while 41 year-old Amanda Hodges (2:36:35) won the women’s competition.
Seems there is also another world class Hincapie cyclist in development. 9 year-old Lucca Hincapie, Enzo’s younger brother, won the piccolo fondo U19 KOM title on the leg burning Pineville Road climb, including gradients up to 10.4%!
Even in miserable rainy weather, 1200 riders participated in Gran Fondo Hincapie Chattanooga.
