The third edition of L’Etape Texas (formerly L’Etape San Antonio) took place on Sunday 14 April in the Lone Star State’s second largest city – San Antonio. On a beautiful spring day over 1000 riders from across the USA and Mexico ventured forth on challenging 100-mile gran, 60-mile medio and 25-mile piccolo fondo routes.

Winning the 100-mile gran fondo and taking home prized yellow Tour de France champion’s jerseys were Jean-Marie Degrange of Houston with a final time of 4:21:22 for the men and Norma Cordova Guerra of Mexico with a time of 4:40:50 for the women.

Always entertaining author, Cookie Fondo organizer and unprofessional cyclist Phil “Crash” Gaimon rolled in at 4:26:32 to finish in 21st place.

The 60-mile fondo saw Mathew Gordon (2:21:18) and Val Mcleod (2:45:02) win the men’s and women’s races respectively. While Jennifer Jones (1:03:36) and C.P. Chacon (0:59:04) recorded the fastest times in the piccolo fondo for the women and men.

The next stop in the L’Etape by Tour de France worldwide series of amateur gran fondo races is at L’Etape Parma in Italy on 28 April, followed by L’Etape Las Vegas back in the USA on 5 May.
