On Monday, after six months of Israel waging war and laying siege to Gaza in hopes of defeating Hamas militants, a member of the Gaza Sunbirds Paracycling Team escaped from the devastated region to compete in 2024 Paralympic qualifying races. While the team and many cyclists worldwide praised this action, 4X Tour de France champion Chris Froome’s wife, Michelle Froome, opted to post a series of hateful anti-muslim comments on the same day, as reported by Cycling Weekly.

In a 13-post Islamophobia rant on X-Twitter, Michelle Froome also said: “The silent majority needs to stand up and be heard. We don’t want your religion, we don’t want your beliefs. It is not compatible with modern civilisation … There are no innocent Gazans.”

Adding “It’s time people stop pandering to the political correctness. It’s all a facade. They burned babies alive. They deserve no remorse what so ever. This is just the beginning. WAKE UP.”

Froome’s shocking comments bring more unwanted attention and risk to her husband’s current team, Israel Premier Tech, owned by Israeli billionaire and multiple UCI Gran Fondo World champion Sylvan Adams. Due to anti-Israeli protests worldwide, the team has been forced to step-up security measures, including armed guards, checking vehicles for explosives and removing the world “Israel” from clothing and team cars.

So far, Israel Premier Tech, Chris Froome and Sylvan Adams have all remained silent and not issued any public statements about Michelle Froome’s social media posts, but others in the cycling community were quick to denounce her comments, including economist and cyclist Armed Sarhan.
