On Sunday the UCI Gravel World Series rolled into Austria for the first time at Wörthersee Gravel Race, with 1000 riders from 30 nations trying to qualify for the 2024 UCI Gravel World Championships.

Austrian Sebastian Schönberger (Team Felt Felbermayr) took the overall win on the 144km half asphalt, half gravel course with a blistering fast time of 4:00:23. Paul Voß (Autsaid) of Germany came in second place at 4:00:50, with the Belgian Daam Soete (Deschacht Hens Maes CX) next at 4:50:52.

Giada Borghesi (Lapierre BTC City Lluibjana) of Italy won the women’s race in 4:28:36, followed closely by Geerike Schreurs (Specialized SD Worx) of the Netherlands in 4:28:40 and Carolin Schiff (Canyon CLLCTV) at 4:29:22 from Germany.

Amateur age group category winners on the 144km course were: W19-34 Anna Kollmann-Suhr, W35-39 Zsofia Toth, W40-44 Nada Voracova, W45-49 Sonja Tajsich, M19-34 Manolo Wrolich, M35-39 Christian Brack, M40-44 Karol Sładek, M45 -49 Guido Paolo Dracone, M50-54 Vladi Riha, M55-59.

The 97km gravel medio fondo age group winners were: W50-54 Marijke De Smedt, W55-59 Kathi Sigmund, W60-64 Nadia Sgarbossa, M60-64 Andrej Zavbi, M65-69 Hermann Mandler, M70-74 Alfred Lechnitz and M75-79 Pierluigi Talamona.

Riders finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category automatically qualify to participate in the 2024 UCI Gravel World Championships taking place in Belgium next autumn.

The next opportunity to qualify for the world championships at a UCI Gravel World Series race is on 20 April in Spain at La Indomable.
