After holding 22 Gran Fondo World Series qualifying events around the world, over 4500 amateur cyclists have qualified to participate in the 2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships taking place 4-7 August in Dundee and Perth, Scotland.
Schleck Granfondo in Luxembourg qualified the most riders, over 525, followed closely by the now defunct Tour of Cambridgeshire in Great Britain (490) and the Tour de Brisbane in Australia (351).
Tour de Bintan in Indonesia and Granfondo Jordan Dead Sea qualified the fewest riders, approximately 80 each, with the series averaging just over 200 per event.
Only one qualifying event remains, Gran Fondo Isle of Man in the United Kingdom 22-23 July. Three events were cancelled – Gran Fondo Guatemala, Velo.Victo.Fest in Canada and Tour of Lakeland in Finland.
Looking forward to the 2024 season, 7 qualifying events have already been announced for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships taking place in Aalborg, Denmark September 2024. It will be the second time Aalborg has hosted the gran fondo world championships, the first being in 2015.
