On Monday, 39 year-old Alan ‘Haley’ Mill, who police say deliberately drove into a group of cyclists and left one with life-changing brain injuries, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, the maximum sentence Colorado State Chief Judge Jeffrey R. Pilkington could impose.
Before sentencing, Mill cried in front of the judge, saying: “My actions were grave, they were ugly, and I understand that they have lifelong consequences for so many people involved. If I could talk directly to Lisa and Mike today, I would tell them I’m sorry. I wish I could switch places with either one of them.”
During the hearing Judge Pilkington disclosed that Alan Mill (now known as Haley Mill) has 15 felony convictions, including two in this case, in addition to having their driver’s license suspended eight times. She was out on parole when she drove into the cyclists, fled the scene and launched a state-wide manhunt with a $10,000 reward one year ago on Father’s Day.
On that day, Mill drove her car directly into cyclist Lisa Ludwig who suffered a traumatic brain injury, three broken ribs, a broken shoulder blade and two broken vertebrae. Mill then hit Mike Will who suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs.
