On Sunday more than 1200 athletes participated in a cold, wet and gritty first edition of Eurobec Gran Fondo in the Spanish-Portuguese border city of Badajoz.

With three different competitions to choose from, the main Gran Fondo event offered a route of 146km with 1088 meters of climbing. The Medio Fondo was 121km, with 844 meters of ascent and the shortest test was the 64km Mini Fondo, with only 455 meters of climbing.

In the 146km Gran Fondo, 35 riders arrived at the finish together with Mario Ferreira (UCA-UNIÃO CICLISMO DO ALENTEJO) winning a fast ‘n furious field sprint on wet roads to take top honors in 3:38:03. Jose Castello was next, with Luis Oliveira crossing in third place.
Liliana Silva (BRINOX CYCLING TEAM) won the women’s gran fondo race in 3:59:59, with Cora Laer and Isabel Cintas rounding out the podium.

The winners of the Mini Fondo were Fabio Abreu (1:39:27) and Isabel Guerreiro (2:02:14). In the Medio Fondo Miguel Pereira (3:00:11) and Ana Sobreira (3:23:28) were crowned champions.
The 2024 edition will start and finish in Elvas, while Campomayor will host Eurobec Gran Fondo 2025 with specific dates yet to be confirmed.
