The ninth edition of the mass-start Old Man Winter Gravel Rally in the snowy Rocky Mountains north of Denver USA saw pro rider Alexey Vermeulen earn victory last weekend, while Ruth Winder once again dominated the women’s field to earned her second title.

The main 100 kilometers long gravel fondo crossed snowy paved roads and climbed numerous dirt canyons, with racers competing on two very long timed ascents to elevations as high as 7500 feet.

In the women’s race Deanna Mayles (3:27:02) finished second to Winder, and Jess Cygan (3:29:17) was third. Tess Amer (3:30:22) just missed taking the last podium step, followed shortly by Tina Hart (3:33:57).

Scott Funston (2:47:14) took second place in the men’s race, followed by Chad Barenston (2:49:13) in third. Brennan Wertz (2:51:13) and Nick Gould (2:51:38) were fourth and fifth respectively.

Champions in the 50km medio gravel fondo were Victoria Dippold (1:23:44) for the women and Tony Baca (1:19:46) for the men.

Over 1500 riders took to the start line in 100, 50 or 10 kilometers long gravel events.
