After retiring from the WorldTour professional ranks in 2022, former World Champion Alejandro Valverde, 42, is now joining the gran fondo circuit and will ride Gran Fondo Valenica on 30 April 2023 in Spain.

Valverde closed out his career as a professional cyclist with an incredible list of accomplishments including: 133 victories, 2018 World Champion, 2009 La Vuelta Grand Tour Champion, 17 Grand Tour stage victories (1 Giro d’Italia, 4 Tour de France and 12 La Vuelta) and much, much more.

In April Valverde will ride with thousands of amateur, elite and recreational cyclists at Gran Fondo Valencia in Sierra Calderona to climb legendary cols like Chirivilla, Oronet and El Garbi Segart, the later being a KOM competition 9.2 kilometers in length with an average gradient of 5.5 percent.

The 18th edition of the storied amateur event will offer three cycling paths for cyclist of all abilities to enjoy: 76, 105 and the 190km route with 2800 meters of climbing which Valverde will ride.

Amateurs will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (if they can keep up with Valverde) of riding next to one of Spain’s greatest cyclists of all time, one that is on par with legends Pedro Delgado, Miguel Indurain and Alberto Contador.
