By 2030, the Tour de France plans for the world famous race to hold the Grand Départ in Canada, with four stages taking place along the Canadian-USA boarder according to what is surely an early April Fools’ Day tweet from Stephane Boury, former pro rider now commissioner responsible for the arrivals of Le Tour for organizer ASO. Along with the tweet was a photo showing a Montreal city limit sign.

Unfortunately for North American’s, the sign pictured is for Montreal, France, about 35 kilometers from Nogaro, France where Boury was scouting the finishing circuit for Stage 4 of the 2023 Tour.

But, North American cyclists can look forward to several upcoming UCI world class cycling events in Canada, including the 2026 UCI Road World Championships and the annual WorldTour Quebec and Montreal GPs, plus the amateur 2026 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, Velo.Victo.Fest gran fondo worlds qualifier and L’etape Canada.

Though hosting a Tour de France Grand Départ is a long shot…at best 🙂
