On Saturday, wearing her newly awarded rainbow striped jersey, 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Road Champion Nicolien Luijsterburg (W40-49) showcased her championship form by winning Gran Fondo Alberto Contador in 5:39:39.
The Dutch rider dominated the 169 kilometer women’s race, finishing over 20 minutes ahead of Suzanne Clarke (6:02:22) and 35 minutes up on Alicia Margalejo (6:15:06).
In the men’s gran fondo race a small elite group arrived at Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort to sprint for overall victory. Ruben Gordo was the fastest man, ahead of Rubén Mancebo and Antonio Som, all of them credited with a time of 5:21:39.

The former Tour de France champion Contador, 39, finished his namesake event in 5:46:20, good enough for 73rd place.
In the 120km medio fondo Alejandra Ruano (4:10:39) and Kurt Caboor (3:48:40) won the women’s and men’s races respectively.
Over 2500 amateur cyclists participated in the 11th edition of Gran Fondo Alberto Contador and the next edition is already planned for 23 September 2023 in Oliva, Spain.
