In a photo-finish on Sunday at Gran Fondo Templari the former Tour de France and Giro d’Italia star Johnny Hoogerland claimed victory over four top-notch breakaway companions at Gran Fondo Templari in Pordenone, Italy.

After racing over a distance of 146 kilometers the reigning UCI Gran Fondo 35-39 World Champion won by the narrowest of margins over Italian Federico Pozzetto (Vivo MG KVis-Dal Colle). Hoogerland (RC Arbo Kac) won with a time of 4:05:20.969 with Pozzetto only 0.002 seconds behind at 4:05:20.971!

Andrea Chiminello (Spezzotto Bike) was in third place at 4:05:21.211, less than a quarter second behind Hoogerland and Pozzetto, and former UCI Gran Fondo World Champion Thommaso Elettrico came in at 4:05:21.719.

The women’s race did not come down to a photo-finish sprint, instead Anastasia Mazzolin (SC Danieli 1914), dominated the whole race and soloed under the finish banned in 4:28:02, almost 45 minutes ahead of Camilla Stefanini, and over an hour ahead of third place rider Mara Beorchia. 

Slovenian Tadej Ales won the medio fondo race in 2:46:40 with an 87 second over a gap Daniele Lazzaro and Nicola Lucchetta, who finished in second and third place respectively. Chiara Grossutti the women’s medio fondo in 2:59:07.
