The United Kingdom is well known for producing some of the fastest time trial riders in the world, and on Saturday hundreds of the UK’s best amateur TT cyclists raced against the clock at the UCI Tour of Cambridgeshire to try and qualify for the 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Championship time trial race.

Aerodynamic specialist George Fox (George Fox Cycling Solutions) figured out how to ride faster than anyone else, he completed the 16.4 mile route with 500 feet of elevation gain in 33:39 at an average speed of 29.29mph. Eight seconds behind, in second place was Matthew Smith (Drag2Zero) and finishing third was Ian Hope (Team Solo Vinci) in 34:24.

Faye Faber (Drag2Zero) was the fastest women, finishing in 39:21.

Riders finishing in the top 20% of their age/gender category at the UCI Tour Of Cambridgeshire Time Trial or Gran Fondo automatically qualify to race for a world championship rainbow jersey in at the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships taking place in Trento, Italy in September.
