05 June 2022 UPDATE: Peter Sagan finished safely in 63rd place at the UNBOUND 100 mile race with a time of 5:58:18, alongside his Team TotalEnergies teammate and wingman Daniel Oss. While across the Atlantic, fellow teammate Niki Terpstra scored a gravel victory for the team at the UCI Wish One Gravel World Series race in France.

Three times World Road Champion Peter Sagan made a surprise video announcment on Instagram today, posting that he will be in the Flint Hills of Kansas, USA next Saturday 4 June to ride the amateur 100-mile UNBOUND Gravel race – his first gravel race.
The cycling superstar is already in the USA and has been training at altitude in Park City, Utah with teammate Daniel Oss in preparation for the Tour de France, which starts in five weeks on Friday 1 July in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Sagan’s 2022 season has been plagued with health issues, including a second bout of COVID-19 and several withdrawals from races. So far he has only 13 days of racing in 2022, but indicates he is ready to resume racing at UNBOUND Gravel.
Advertised as the “World’s Premier Gravel Event, ” the 2022 edition of UNBOUND Gravel is expected to draw the event’s biggest attendance in its 17-year history, with over 4000 gravel racers from all over the USA registered to ride across the challenging Flint Hills of Kansas.
After the race, Sagan and Oss will catch a flight to Europe and get ready to participate in the Tour de Suisse stage race starting 12 June.
