Reigning Italian and European champion, as well as 2021 Paris Roubaix winner, Sonny Colbrelli is not the only Colbrelli who can sprint to victory.
On Sunday, Sonny’s twenty-something little brother, Tomas Colbrelli (B3L Team), sprinted to win one of the great Italian amateur classics, Gran Fondo Luca Avesani, in the 85 kilometer race with 1600 meters of climbing around Verona, Italy.

In a two-man sprint it was a once again a rider with the Colbrelli name that stood high atop a victory podium, narrowly defeating Samuele Chiappa, both with a time of 2:29:00. Alberto Gavazzi was third at 2:29:09.
Tomas, only took up competitive cycling during the pandemic and has been quietly notching up top results in the amateur ranks while Sonny is sidelined recovering from a serious heart condition sustained at the Volta a Catalunya in March.
In the women’s 85km event, Lisa De Cesare (Highroad Team) earned victory in 2:44:02, ahead of Giulia Savio (GCD Cage-Moveya Vc Silvana) at 2:41:34 and Antonella Incristi (Ki.Co.Sys Team) at 2:56:22.

The 120km gran fondo race with 2500 meters vertical ascent, Nicolò Tamussi (Oop! Oxyburn), fresh off a win at the Colago Cycling Festival gran fondo, outsprinted local rider Enrico Logica (Asd Avesani) and Andrea Bais (Sildom Garda) to win.
Sonia Passuti (New Green Buzzolan Basso) won the 125km women’s event in 3:56:23, 40 seconds ahead of Amastasia Mazzolin (Daniele 1914) and over five minutes in front of Elisa Parisi (Sc Formigosa).
