The 30th edition of Neusiedler See Radmarathon will join the UCI Gran Fondo World Series as a Gran Fondo World Championship qualifying race in April 2022, making it the only race in Austria where amateur and hobby cyclists can qualify for the world championships.
“Talks with the UCI began at the beginning of 2019. They approached us and asked us if we would be interested in joining the largest international gran fondo network, the Gran Fondo World Series,” announced race organiser Johannes Hessenberger, adding, “This is a very great honor for us.”
Starting in Mörbisch, the 125 kilometres long race through Burgenland, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is flat and fast, favoring sprinters over climbers and will likely be won on tactics.
Riders wanting to preview the course and start planning race tactics can participate in this year’s edition of Neusiedler See Radmarathon on 3 October 2021. Over 700 participants have already registered.
The UCI plans to officially release the entire 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Series calendar at the end of September.
