Calling all amateur, weekend-warrior, hobby and semi-faux-pro cyclists.
The 2nd edition of the European Granfondo Championships, organized by the European Cycling Unon (UEC), will be on 6 June in Verona, Italy at Alé la Merckx Granfondo.
Male and female age group winners in the gran fondo and medio fondo will be crowned European Champion and awarded UEC jerseys and medals just like the pros. Official UEC age group categories are 19-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64 for the Granfondo European Championships and 65-69, 70-74, 75+ for the Mediofondo European Championships.
All amateur riders world-wide are welcome to participate, but expect tough wheel-to-wheel competition from Italians eager to win and pull on a highly coveted UEC championship jersey. The gran fondo race will cover 128 kilometers and almost 2600 metres climbing, while the 82 kilometres medio fondo race offers 1450 metres of climbing.
Organisers expect over 1500 riders, but there is no no race-day entry so pre-register early.
