In consideration of the fact that Northern Italy’s current Covid-19 situation is “iffy” and uncertain at best, organiser Unione Sportiva Bormiese has moved the date of Granfondo Stelvio Santini (planned 6 June) to Sunday 12 September 2021.
“A painful decision, but necessary because we have always placed the safety of our guests and all volunteers at the center of our attention and, with the due caution we have learned in recent months, we have chosen to postpone our Granfondo for three months,” announced Paola Santini.
Under normal conditions, the event which ascends the world famous Stelvio climb via 48 hairpin turns high in the Italian Alps hosts 3500 gran fondo riders, half of whom come from abroad, representing 45 countries, and the reception of such a high number of people with their companions would make the management of the event problematic.
The 6 June event is sold-out, but those already registered will retain their starting bibs and automatically be moved to the 12 September date.
