Italian cyclists breathed a collective sigh of relief this week as the Liguria region transitioned into in the coronavirus yellow safety zone, guaranteeing the 11th edition of Gran Fondo Città di Loano will start Sunday 7 March.
The gran fondo, originally planned for 14 February, kicks off the 2021 Loabikers Trophy and the Italian National Granfondo calendar.

“We already have all the authorizations for the granfondo,” noted GS Loabikers president Piernicola Pesce. “We are good with the COVID protocols, as already put into practice last autumn. There is no problem in participating in the granfondo, as we are a race of national interest.”
The entire area of the event will be subject to anti Covid protocols.
“We remind you of the absolute need to avoid any form of gathering, with particular care for the finish area, which must be cleared as soon as possible, avoiding waiting for friends and / or teammates.”
Former cycling superstar and local resident Claudio “Il Diablo” Chiappucci will participate and pedal for all 107 kilometers of the route, tackling the 1650 meters of vertical gain on the two main climbs.
