If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again is the un-official motto for the 30th L’Etape du Tour gran fondo organized by the Tour de France.

Nice, France will once again try to host the L’Etape du Tour using the same route originally planned for the 2020 event that was cancelled (twice) due to COVID19.

Tour de France chief Christian Prudhomme unveiled details of the 15,000 rider mass participation gran fondo event on Sunday evening after presenting the route of the 2021 Tour de France.

Starting on Sunday 4 July the amateur event will follow Stage 2 of the 2020 Tour de France in and around Nice.  The route covers 175 kilometres with an eye-popping 3600 metres of elevation gain, but it is not a course solely for mountain goats – all-rounder Julian Alaphilippe sprinted to victory on it in the 2020 Tour de France.

If you were already registered for the cancelled 2020 edition, you are automatically guaranteed entry in 2021.

If you were not lucky enough to have a starting slot but would like to ride L’Etape du Tour on 4 July 2021 you can add your name to the wait list here.
