Doubts and uncertainty about the 2021 UCI Gran Fondo World Series continue to build with a second event on the verge of cancelling due to COVID19.

Scheduled for 3 October in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, UCI Gran Fondo Banjaluka will not take place as planned.  The event was a test run for the 2021 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships taking  place next September on the same course.

Bosnia is currently a COVID19 red zone with all visitors required to quarantine for 14 days when entering the country or for residents returning from abroad.  The quarantine measures have resulted in a very small number of foreign riders planning to attend the 3 October event.

Today, the organizer announced the decision to put the event on hold with hopes of it being rescheduled in November if Bosnia is not a COVID19 red zone anymore. Otherwise, the event will be cancelled.

Of the first three 2021 UCI Gran Fondo World Series races, only Maraton Franja in Slovenia has gone off as planned.  Amy’s Granfondo in Australia has been cancelled and now Gran Fondo Banjaluka is doubtful.
