Winning Mexico’s L’Etape San Carlos turned into a family affair Saturday for the Salomon siblings Betsabee and David.

Fresh off a victory last weekend at El Tour de Tucson in the USA, Betsabee Salomon showed here winning form once gain at L’Etape San Carlos – with another impressive solo victory.
She completed the 130km gran fondo course alongside the Sea of Cortez and through the rugged Sonoran mountains in 3:35:27. Gabriela Nadar Gonzalez finished second 20 seconds later with Diana Carina Sanchez Felix taking third.

Betsabee’s older brother, 39-year old ex-pro cyclist David Salomon Alvarez, won the men’s 130km gran fondo race too. He outsprinted Oscar Cota Padilla to cross the finish line in 3:27:21, with pro rider Corella Braun Rene Guillermo finishing third.

In the 80km medio fondo, 40-year old Heriberto Diaz Due As won the men’s race solo in 2:28:40, besting a strong group of up-and-coming 15-18 year junior racers including Sebastian Montoya Rios, Moises Edgardo Ruiz Antunez, Oscar Daniel Roman Rios and Oscar Franciso Cristobal Sanchez.

Claudia Zaragoza Marcos won the women’s 80km race in 2:28:40, 2:30 ahead of Elsa Lucia Verdugo Erbe and Deyanira Flores Elizondo.

1000 riders participated in L’Etape San Carlos, the last of five 2020 L’Etape events in Mexico.
