The UCI Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge, a UCI Gran Fondo World Championship Qualifying Race, was held on Friday, November 29 in Dubai, UAE.  Over 2500 riders participated from through out the world, including Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Russia, Romania, South Africa, Philippines and Mexico.

The 100km course started at the world famous Dubai Autodrome before going out on Dubai’s glass smooth roads in search of speed.

In the non-UCI Gran Fondo race for professionals and elite riders, former Tour de France top-10 finisher Jani Brajkovič soloed in for victory in 2:18:51, almost 2 minutes ahead of Canadian David Williams and Australian Arlen Vartazarian.

The UCI Gran Fondo came down to a large field sprint with Russian Bojan Durdic earning the win in 2:18:49.  Steve James from Australia and Shannon O’Connor finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

After winning Gran Fondo Yunnan in early November, Annemiek Stegehuis continued her winning streak in women’s category with a time of 2:36:27.  2nd was Nienke Gelderloos, with Karen Moddermann 3rd.

UCI Gran Fondo riders finishing in the top 20% of their age group qualify for the 2020 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships to be held in Vancouver, Canada in September.

Pending appeals, results may change with final results to be published at noon December 1, 2019.
