While Northern Hemisphere riders finish up their season and prepare for cold winter rides, their counterparts along the Equator and south are already cruising in warm Winter gran fondo events, like Mexico’s La Vuelta Mayakoba on the Caribbean coast.

For the 5th edition on October 13th, La Vuelta Mayakoba attracted 219 riders, including Olympian Claudia Rivas, to the beautiful Riviera Maya city of Playa del Carmen.

Both the 151km Gran Fondo and 85km Medio Fondo took riders past spectacular white sand beaches and through tropical jungles filled with flora and fauna. Along the route riders competed for King Of Mountain and Queen Of Mountain titles on the Meta Volante climb between Agua Azul and San Martiniano.

In the men’s KOM race, Jamie Vergara won with Oscar Sierra 2nd and Rudy Rincon 3rd. Nidia Perera was QOM followed by Lucy Garcia and Diana Fernanda.
