Sunday’s 40th Milestone Edition of the Herald Cycle Tour in South Africa was not only an opportunity for elite and older age group riders to compete, it also showcased the country’s up-and-coming teen cycling stars.

With a dominant performance Frederick (Fredi) Botha won the 106km boys Under-19 age group competition in 2:32:05 and placed 15th overall against elite riders twice as old and experienced. Meyer Botha and Zain Solomons battled for the final podium steps, with Meyer narrowly claiming second place in 2:44:00.

Catalina Rose Lamers sprinted to victory in the girls Under-19 age group with a time of 3:16:49. Shanique Marx and Ulrike De Wit took second and third place respectively, both with a time of 3:16:50.

Riley Van Der Walt (1:36:10) and Summer Gaylard (1:38:14) won the 55km Under-17 age group competition for the boys and girls respectively.

In the 55km Under-15 age group race it was Zander Janse van Resnburg winning in 2:01:45, with Ryan Delport in the runner-up position at 2:01:50.

Over 1200 cyclists participated in the 40th Herald Cycle Tour, with 22 year-old elite cyclist Tyler Lange taking the overall 106km race win in 2:32:03, followed immediately by Kellan Gouveris and then former South African National Road Champion Ryan Gibbons.

Tiffany Keep, 25, finished first in the elite women’s 106km competition, defeating Sannara Grove and 2025 African Continental Gravel Champion Hayley Preen in 3:04:31.
