The UCI Gravel World Championship qualifying series resumed racing for the new year on Saturday 14 February in Cederberg, South Africa, with 2025 Cape Epic Champion Filippo Colombo annihilating the competition en route victory.
On a 151km gravel gran fondo route with numerous river crossings, loose gravel, brutal climbs and screaming descents, 28 year-old Colombo of Switzerland dropped all challengers to win solo in 4:43:21, over six minutes ahead of last year’s champion Felix Stehli and 2024 South African Gravel Champion Mark Pritzen.
2025 African Continental Gravel Champion Hayley Preen, 27, of South Africa won the women’s race solo in 5:39:00, followed by Lisa Bone at 5:42:23 and Daria Pravilova in 5:50:09.
Clement De Bruin won the shorter 68 kilometer medio fondo gravel race in 2:28:24, with Julia Cass doing the same for the women in 2:52:29.
Competitors finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category qualified for the 2026 UCI Gravel World Championships taking place in the Australia next October.
