Once again, Great Britain’s largest mass participation cycling event has been cancelled.

RideLondon organizer London Marathon Events made the announcement on Tuesday, “RideLondon, the world’s greatest festival of cycling, has been placed on indefinite pause following operational and financial considerations of the event’s future direction.

Seems the event is stuck in a Groundhog Day time loop after a similar announcement cancelled the 2025 edition: “We feel the time is right to take a pause this year and bring all stakeholders together to work on a new concept for the world’s greatest festival of cycling…”

Although very popular with cyclists, RideLondon has a checkered past. COVID toppled plans for the event in 2020 and the next year was no better. It was cancelled after local residents grew tired of having 25,000 lycra-clad cyclists blocking roads, creating congestion, littering, urinating in public and displaying anti-social behavior.

Then in 2023 the event was once again on the verge of being cancelled, this time due to lack of financial sponsorship. Luckily, Ford signed on as title sponsor at the last minute, allowing RideLondon to live for yet another year.

This latest indefinite cancellation announcement comes on the heels of London Marathon Events Chairman Terence Duddy’s conviction for Careless Driving after crashing into and seriously injuring a cyclist in November 2025. Duddy has since resigned as chairman.
