On Friday the Internationale Cycling Union (UCI) announced Azerbaijani amateur teenage cyclist Artyom Proskuryakov received a three-year ban after testing positive for Methamphetamine, or “crystal meth.”

The UCI reports the anti-doping violation occurred during “intelligence-led testing” while the then 18 year-old was in Rwanda last September for the UCI Junior Road World Championships – where he was 41st in the Time Trial and did not finish the Road Race.

After being provisionally suspended in November 2025 the teenager requested analysis of his B-Sample. The UCI announcement also indicated that too came back positive for Methamphetamine.

Methamphetamine is a World Anti-Doping Agency prohibited substance when used in-competition (i.e. during the world championships).

Proskuryakov is prohibited from participating in sport in any capacity from 18 November 2025 until 17 November 2028.
