On Saturday 24 January 2026 multiple masked United States Boarder Patrol agents shot and killed 37 year-old American cyclist and veterans intensive care nurse Alex Pretti 10 times as he tried to shield a women during protests against federal immigration enforcement in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Detailed analysis and multiple eyewitness videos of the shooting by award winning Bellingcat open-source investigative journalists available HERE – CAUTION IMAGES ARE DISTURBING.

The videos captured by eyewitnesses to the shooting contradict the federal account of the incident:

9:05 AM CT, as DHS law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault, an individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, seen here.

The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. More details on the armed struggle are forthcoming.

Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect also had 2 magazines and no ID-this looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.

Alex Pretti was an avid MTB cyclist often found riding a hardtail Surly – a brand distributed by Minneapolis bike distributor QBP – and regularly shredding singletrack trials around Minneapolis. He also competed in the 2025 Riverwest24, an annual 24 hour bike race in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with upwards of 1500 participants.

Minneapolis area cyclists plan to gather on Saturday 31 January to ride in honor of Alex, with his favorite bike shop, Angry Catfish, organizing the memorial ride.

An Alex Pretty American Here GoFundMe has been set up to benefit Alex’s parents as well as the Immigrant Defense Project, a nonprofit that provides litigation, advocacy, and community-defense resources to help immigrants defend their rights and fight deportation. At time of publication 35,000+ people had donated over $1.4 million USD.
