The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced on Thursday that 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Time Trial Champion Matthew Clark accepted a 3 year ban from sport after allegedly testing positive for Anabolic Androgenic Steroids.
The UCI reports the 41 year-old amateur American cyclist from Utah committed anti-violations on 16 October 2025, the same day he won the UCI Gran Fondo World Championship M40-44 Time Trial in Australia and made the follow Facebook post:

Typically violations like Clark’s result in a 4 year ban, but if an athlete admits to the charges and accepts the sanction within 20 days of receiving notification (13 January 2026 in Clark’s case), they receive a one-year reduction.
This early resolution option, often referred to as a Case Resolution Agreement, allows anti-doping organizations to avoid length and costly court hearings. It functions like pleading guilty in court, allowing for a quicker resolution for both athlete and the anti-doping organization.
In addition to the 3 year ban, Clark is disqualified and stripped of all results obtained 16 October 2025 until 13 January 2026. This includes his UCI World Championship title and prized rainbow jersey.
Clark retains his 2025 USA Cycling Masters Road National Champion title won 2 July since the result occurred before the date of his positive anti-doping test. Thus, he may still wear the USA Stars and Stripes national champion jersey, but now only on training rides.
Clark’s ban runs from 13 January 2026 until 12 January 2029.
