A sold-out 2026 Australian Gran Fondo National Championship will take place Sunday morning 11 January on the National Road course in Perth, just prior to professional men and women racing for their national road titles.
Competing for coveted Australian green-and-gold champion’s jerseys in various age/gender categories, cyclists will race multiple 13.5 kilometer laps on a fully closed course including fast downhills, punchy 12% climbs, European style technical roundabouts and thousands of cheering spectators.
Using a different scoring model than the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, results will be based solely on elapsed time – not first to cross the finish line like most events. Riders finishing in a group will each be given their own elapsed time and scored on that basis. Thus, the fastest riders on the day will earn victory regardless of when or where they start in the field.
Only AusCycling members are eligible to win a national championship title and jersey. For example, if the first 3 finishers in a category are non-members and the first AusCycling member in that category is 5th. The top 3 will receive the gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively. The 5th place finisher would receive the 2026 Australian National Gran Fondo Champion jersey.
