On Friday the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced nine new gran fondo world championship events for amateur cyclists trying to qualify for the 2026-2027 worlds taking place in Niseko, Japan (2026) and Haute-Savoie, France (2027).
Riders finishing in the top 25% of their UCI age/gender category at any one of the gran fondo world championship series events is automatically qualified to compete in the worlds.
For the 2026 season five new events are on the calendar:
Cape Town Cycle Tour 8 May 2026, Cape Town, South Africa
Sudety Tour 10 May 2026, Broumov, Czechia
Tour de Matra 31 May 2026, Gyongyos, Hungary
Granfondo Bulgaria 21 June 2026, Velingrad, Bulgaria
Tour de Fukushima 14 June 2026, Fukushima, Japan
New qualifying events announced for the 2027 season include:
Gran Fondo Chile 4 October 2026, Region de Los Rios, Chile
Granfondo La Nucia 18 October 2026, Nucia, Spain
Granfondo Ecuador 14 November 2026, Salinas, Ecuador
Gran Fondo Siete Lagos 22 November, Villa la Angostura, Argentina
