On a foggy Saturday morning over 2000 riders participated in the 14th Gran Fondo Hincapie Greenville in the mountains of South Carolina USA, with $900,000 in proceeds from the event supporting local families and businesses still recovering from last year’s hurricane Helene.
In a blast from the past, former Olympian and 2x USA Elite National Time Trial Champion Kent “Bostasaurus” Bostick, 72, outrode most of the field – except a few youngsters. After beating Stage IV melanoma cancer two years ago, he impressively finished the 83 mile gran fondo in 5:10:20 in 63rd place overall to win the 70+ men’s age group by almost 1.5 hours.
At the pointy end of the peloton, 18 year-old Dillon Lee took first place in 4:04:35, followed by the even younger Kaison Smith, 16, at 4:09:33 and then 2025 USA Gran Fondo National Champion Jeff Case, 31, at 4:12:56.
Julie Voss, 38, won the women’s gran fondo in 4:49:17, with former Masters World Champion Debbie Milne, 56, next at 4:53:33 and then 18 year-old Shaina Kulczycki finishing third in 4:54:10.
Lukas Fry 2:44:06 and Amanda Hodges 3:01:11 won the shorter 55 mile medio fondo for the men and women respectively.
