Latest anti-doping news from around the world:
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in concert with International Testing Agency (ITA) announced Chinese cyclist Junhong Lin has been provisionally suspended after re-analysis of her anti-doping test samples from January 2016 allegedly confirmed the presence of banned Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS). Lin, now 34, no longer competes, but she was a UCI Track World Championship Sprint silver medalist in March 2016. If found guilty of the anti-doping violation, she may be stripped of the result and medal. The re-analysis was conducted by ITA as part of a long-term (up to 10 years) program to re-examine testing samples based on new intelligence, investigative findings, or advancements in anti-doping detection technology.
Also, Italy’s National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO Italia) charged amateur cyclist Andrea Parisi with anti-doping violations and issued a provisional suspension after test results reportedly came up positive for Amiloride-Hydrochlorothiazide – a banned diuretic commonly used to treat hypertension and heart failure, but also used by some athletes to mask the presence of other banned substances. Italian Cycling Federation (FCI) results list Andrea Parisi as the 2025 Italian Granfondo Champion in the M2 category (age 35-39).
Note: Provisionally suspended athletes are presumed innocent until an anti-doping court hears their case and renders a verdict, but in the meantime they are not allowed to participate in sport in any capacity.
